DOGS AND CATS AGOPUNCTUREÂ
Why is it so effective?
Why is it so effective?
Gina is a gorgeous, cuddly 7-year-old dachshund who loves to be held. She had a chronic, recurring, and fluctuating front leg limp. Here's Gina with needles, comfortably relaxed in her human companion's legs.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
On Wikipedia, acupuncture is defined as an alternative, unscientific, and unverified medicine that uses the insertion of needles into specific points on the human body to promote health and well-being. According to traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these points can correct imbalances in the flow of qi through channels known as "meridians."
Also from Wikipedia... the origins of acupuncture in China are uncertain. The first bibliographic references to this practice are found in the ancient Emperor's Canon of Internal Medicine, compiled between 305 and 204 BC.
Acupuncture is the most well-known therapeutic technique in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. This practice involves inserting small needles into specific points on the body ("acupuncture points"). Other techniques can be used to complement the treatment, such as thermal stimulation of acupuncture points ("moxibustion"), massage, electrical stimulation, laser stimulation, and so on.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has formally proclaimed acupuncture to be an effective remedy and should be taken seriously as a clinical procedure of considerable value. This is why it is increasingly widespread in our healthcare facilities
An article published in LA REPUBBLICA in 1996 (25 years ago) details the results of experiments promoted by the WHO, which had developed guidelines for the practice of acupuncture. Below is a screenshot of the article describing the interesting results the scientific community reached after careful experiments and demonstrations. In the 25 years since then, many advances have been made, as demonstrated by the increasing number of acupuncturists in our hospitals.
IS ACUPUNCTURE PAINFUL?
It depends on the patient's sensitivity; generally, more than 95% of patients don't feel the needle insertion. On my YOUTUBE channel you can find many VIDEOS during the acupuncture treatment. Like this oneÂ
The acupuncture points on the fingers and toes are the most sensitive areas.
CAN IT BE DONE FOR CATS TOO?
I regularly practice acupuncture on cats to treat chronic conditions (chronic vomiting, stress and insistent licking, eosinophilic granuloma syndrome, cystitis, etc.), and I admit I never thought I'd be able to insert needles into particularly sensitive areas, but they seem to understand the benefits on their own. Most cats let themselves be treated.
DOES ACUPUNCTURE CAUSE SIDE EFFECTS?
Acupuncture has no side effects because it does not use allopathic chemicals. These therapies, which act on the animal's own energy, are effective and completely doping-free.
There is no risk of transmitting infections because, as with humans, disposable materials are used.
HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?
According to classical Chinese medicine, both the human and animal bodies are traversed by a constant flow of vital energy.
This vital energy, called 'Qi,' originates from the main organs and flows along a circulatory system of channels called "meridians". When the energy flow is smooth and balanced, your pet is healthy; if the flow is obstructed or otherwise disturbed, the animal will be ill or in pain.
At the acupuncture points on the meridians, the energy flow can be stimulated, restoring the delicate energetic balance and promoting beneficial health.
Chinese theory explains how acupuncture regulates physiological functions and helps maintain the body's harmonious balance.
Indeed, according to this philosophy, veterinary acupuncturists use this medical art not only to treat existing pathologies, but also to strengthen the body's physical condition, preventing disease and promoting health.
WHICH CONDITIONS BENEFIT FROM ACUPUNCTURE?
Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine treats the animal, not the individual condition, which is why it is considered a holistic, energetic, and preventative medicine.
Many conditions can be successfully treated, typically all painful, musculoskeletal, and locomotor disorders.
Excellent results are also achieved in reproductive disorders, heart disease, hormonal imbalances, infectious and immune-mediated diseases, respiratory problems, geriatric conditions, and behavioral problems. Furthermore, acupuncture can be considered not only for therapeutic purposes, but also to enhance and improve the performance of athletic animals.
LIST OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY BENEFIT FROM ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT:
Neuro-osteoarticular system disorders (osteoarticular pain, arthritis, arthrosis (LINK DYSPLASIA), acute and chronic herniated discs (LINK ERNIA), improves post-traumatic bone calcification, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, etc.)
Endocrine disorders (hypothyroidism, Cushing's/Addison's, reproductive disorders, etc.)
Respiratory disorders (acute/chronic, asthma, allergic bronchitis, cough, catarrh, etc.)
Gastrointestinal disorders (vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, etc.)
Dermatological problems (itching, allergies, dermatitis, abscesses, etc.)
Food intolerances
Behavioral problems (separation anxiety, excessive agitation, etc.)
