...and, with passion, I continue to study and conduct research every day, also based on the complexity of the patients I treat. True study takes shape through in-depth analysis of the new patient, their habits, their symptoms, their relationship with their human companion, and the search for the most appropriate treatment for that specific moment. Furthermore, supporting the systems and organs that are directly or indirectly involved is essential.
I study, study, and study again.
NEUROLOGICAL EMERGENCIES, DYSPLASIAS, HERNIAS
After graduating, I worked in a center specializing in neurology and, for over 10 years, in the emergency room at one of the most important veterinary clinics in Turin, dealing with emergencies on a daily basis. I primarily dealt with neurological and non-neurological emergencies, such as head trauma, stroke, paralysis, seizures, and acute herniated discs.
The patients I saw most frequently were refractory epileptic dogs, those who, unfortunately, arrived 1-2 times a month with continuous epileptic seizures and necessarily had to be hospitalized.
THE LIMITS OF A SINGLE DIAGNOSTIC-THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
The quality of life of these dogs and cats and their families was severely tested. At times, the situation became unbearable when these patients spent more days in crisis and hospitalization than they did in a normal life; reluctantly, the most painful but inevitable decision was to end their suffering through euthanasia.
Euthanasia of a dog or cat who has lived with you for many years and given you unconditional love is a deeply painful act, even when you know they are suffering and there is nothing else logical to do.
For me, as a veterinarian, even though it may have seemed like a simple medical procedure, it was a searing wound that caused me, in addition to emotional pain, frustration, a sense of helplessness, and many doubts. Had I really done everything I could for that patient?
Edoardo did not faint during the Shiatsu treatment, he was just sleeping soundly.
The repeated frustration with these cases immediately sparked in me the need to find other ways, other methods, to help dogs and cats live serenely, with renewed energy, and with more dignity, especially during the final stages of their lives with their loved ones.
THE SOLUTION
It was clear that, for certain problems, especially the more complex ones, the Western or Eastern medicine approaches alone proved to be limited.
In 2002, I experienced the effectiveness of acupuncture not only on myself but also on dogs and cats, and I decided to delve deeper and expand my knowledge. I then turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine, whose philosophy is truly far removed from that of Western medicine.
So I began to adopt some Integrated and customized protocols, resulting from the vast caseload I've treated and from years of monitoring the results of various therapies and the difficulties I've encountered.
I can proudly say that I'm a Veterinarian Expert in Integrative Medicine for dogs and cats who has decided to focus my studies on older, chronically ill dogs and cats.
